Hello. I’m Jenny Gaskell, I’m an artist. I make performances and participatory art.

I’m interested in connection, art that happens in everyday places and creating scenarios for people to take agency.

My work involves hosting, listening, writing, gathering people together and thinking about how to hold various types of grief. It is often intimate, tender, funny, conceptual and gives reverence to everyday interactions. I have an ongoing obsession with customer service providers. I once spent 18 months working for a non-religious church and I am a trained funeral celebrant.

I have made projects in parks, parties, b&b bedrooms, toilets, trams and snooker halls. My work has been supported by Art B&B, Barbican Centre, Cambridge Junction, Camden People’s Theatre, Contact, GMCA, HOME, Islington Mill, The Lowry, Leftcoast, Lancaster Arts, LADA, People’s History Museum, MIF, a-n and ACE. I was previously shortlisted for a BBC3 commission.

I am currently an honorary research fellow with the University of York, working within the sociology department, exploring end of life care for humans and animals.

For more info about my work, see Projects.

I have a background in producing, community organising and non-religious church leading (#notacult). For more details, see Producing.
